Service or being a servant in Israel was voluntary whether bought or not. Stealing anyone to sell carries the death penalty for the thief.

In the Holy Scriptures, the word for slavery does not exist but it is any oppressive work whether it is for free or whether it is paid. Exodus 3:9, 22:21, 23:9, Deuteronomy 24:14.
